Just Released! SoundHound Launches Free Music Search and Discovery App for iPhone, iPod touch & iPad

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

April 27, 2010 09:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time

SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SoundHound, the revolutionary sound search company, announced the launch of a new, free version of its popular mobile app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The free app includes five searches per month, and offers the same rich features and blazing fast music recognition as the premium app, SoundHound Infinity. The SoundHound App can identify recorded music as well as songs users sing or hum.

“Fans love that the SoundHound App helps them search, discover, and share music instantly,” said Keyvan Mohajer, CEO of SoundHound. “Our free app puts SoundHound in the hands of more users, allowing the magic of instant search and discovery to be shared across even more fans as a result.”

The existing premium application that millions of music fans already enjoy is now called SoundHound Infinity – a nod to its unlimited search and discovery – and designated with the ∞ symbol. The free app inherits the SoundHound name; music fans wanting more than five searches a month can easily upgrade to the SoundHound Infinity App from within the free application – and retain their history and bookmarks.

The SoundHound App has instant mobile music search and discovery. Features in both the SoundHound and SoundHound Infinity Apps include:

* Blazing fast music recognition. Fans can identify music playing from a speaker (radio, TV, films) in as little as four seconds.

* Sing & Hum music recognition. If fans can carry a tune, the SoundHound App can identify it.

* Voice-directed search. Fans simply speak a Title or Artist to explore and get results instantly, including links to video, discography, artist info and more.

* Instant sharing with integrated and customizable email, Facebook and Twitter options.

* What’s Hot, Underplayed, and being newly ID’d on SoundHound around the world.

* Lyrics, videos, tour dates, and other rich content.

* Integrated Pandora radio stations. Discover something new and cool on the SoundHound App and use Pandora to quickly create a new station around it.

The SoundHound App for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad is available for free from the App Store or at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/soundhound/id355554941?mt=8. The SoundHound Infinity App for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad is available for $4.99 from the App Store or at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id284972998?mt=8.

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Our team is hard at work making SoundHound better than ever and sometimes we go alittle overboard…

Kenn

…but we rolled out an update for SoundHound on the Android in between our naps.  We’ve added a feature many users have asked for and also improved the performance of the app.

Lyrics are here! Want to sing along with a song or want to rap along with Snoop Dogg songs? Well now you have your chance for some karaoke fun!

lyrics

When we added the lyrics feature, we just had to improve the user experience by providing better graphics and speed up the ’search’ process. Now the app will been seen in high resolution and searches are done in as little as 4 seconds!

Existing users can update the app for free, while the app is available at the low low one time price of $4.99USD for new users.

Get SoundHound on your phone by going to the Market and searching for “SoundHound”

Of course we also have hired an exterminator to kill all the bugs, but if there is one or two still out there, please let us know by emailing us at support-android@midomi.com.

Stanford

On March 4, the Stanford Wind Ensemble (a group of 50 players) will be performing “Reminiscence” for concert band composed by Kamyar Mohajer under the direction of maestro Giancarlo Aquilanti. The event will take place at Stanford’s Dinkelspiel Auditorium next to the music department. For more information, please see this link http://music.stanford.edu/Events/calendar.html (under March 4)

We would be delighted if you could join us that night. The event is free for Stanford students. $5 for other students. $10 for adults.

Kamyar Mohajer was born in Tehran, Iran in October 1976. His mother is a Persian folk music educator and vocalist, and father a passionate advocate of the arts. He started playing the piano at the age of 9, and continued his music education at York University, Toronto, after moving to Canada in 1995. He completed his undergraduate studies in piano performance and composition with masters like Christina Petrowska-Quilico and Antonin Kubalek.

Upon graduation with a J.D. and an M.B.A. in 2004, Kamyar began working as a business attorney in Toronto. In 2006, he moved to Silicon Valley, California to join his brother in starting Melodis (creator of SoundHound), a sound search technology and applications company. He has since been acting as the company’s legal and business development executive.stanford2

In 2007, Kamyar resumed the pursuit of his passion for music. He began by writing for the piano, and continued his education in composition and orchestration privately with maestro Giancarlo Aquilanti at Stanford University. He has written numerous pieces for various combinations of instruments, including woodwind quintet, string quartet, solo piano, orchestra, and wind ensemble. Kamyar recently completed writing a full length orchestral symphony in four movements. He transcribed parts of the symphony for the Stanford Wind Ensemble, entitled Reminiscence for concert band.

Melodis Corp will also have a presence at the event and will be giving out free promo codes for SoundHound, one of the most popular music apps on the iPhone.
